Your support of the ACLU helps us turn these noble ideals into action that has changed the face of America—and continues to do so. With the help of donors, the ACLU has been a leader in the fight to defend free speech, protect privacy, replace Jim Crow laws with civil rights, stop government-coerced religion, replace racial profiling and police abuse with community policing, end apartheid in the U.S. and work towards an America in which there is truly “Liberty and Justice for All.”

But the need grows greater every day. Besides establishing and safeguarding the right to Free Speech at the heart of our democracy here in the Nation’s Capital, the ACLU-NCA Legal Director has frequently been the lead Washington ACLU attorney on such “Patriot Act” cases as those involving Americans held secretly without charge, illegally screening demonstrators away from President Bush, seeking documents on prisoner treatment at Guantanamo Bay, and illegal FBI spying on political, religious and environmental groups. These are just samples of the work we undertake with your support.

The ACLU-NCA is really two organizations, the American Civil Liberties Union of the National Capital Area, the principal lobbying arm, and the tax-deductible ACLU-NCA Fund, for the legal, public education and community outreach programs.
The ACLU-NCA Fund is a 502(c)(3) organization and contributions are tax deductible to the maximum extent provided by law.

Each contribution will be gratefully received and carefully used.  Because contributions are used to defend civil liberties, we cannot offer refunds (not that anyone’s ever asked for one.)
