of Democracy
Now!, the only
national broadcast
news show free of
all corporate underwriting,
will be honored
with the 2008 Henry
W. Edgerton Civil
Liberties Award
for her distinguished
career as an active
defender and supporter
of civil liberties.
Amy Goodman
acted as news director
of Pacifica Radio
Station WBAI-FM
in New York City
for a decade before
she co-founded Democracy
Now! The War and
Peace Report
in 1996. Her projected
goal in creating
Democracy Now!
was to make dissent
a commonplace occurrence
in the United States.
Free of corporate
underwriting, the
programs aired on
Democracy Now!
present a range
of independent voices
not often heard.
Ms. Goodman has
co-authored two
books thus far in
her career and has
received numerous
awards and accolades
for her dedicated
defense of civil
liberties throughout
the years.
With the unanimous
recommendations
